Staff Reporter :The Progressive Chhatra Jote’s program to besiege the Home Ministry has been foiled by the police near Supreme Court in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.Being obstructed, the Jote activists staged demonstration and chanting against the government and police in the area.They announced the program on Tuesday to press home its six-point demand, including arrest of the perpetrators involved in women assault incident at Dhaka University (DU) during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on April 14.The Jote leaders and activists brought out a procession from Madhu’s Canteen at DU at about11:00am. But, police first obstructed them near Doyel Chattar at about 12:15pm and then again at the Tribunal gate of the High Court.Meanwhile, Chhatra Union’s mass signature program continues to realize their demands.Earlier on May 10, Jote leaders and activists came under police attack as they went to gherao the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner’s office that left a number of activists injured.Progatishee Chhatra Jote (Progressive Students’ Alliance) and Samrajyabadbirodhi Chhatra Oikya (Anti-Imperialist Students’ Unity) have announced the programme to lay siege to Home Ministry at a press conference at Dhaka University’s Madhu;s canteen on Tuesday, said the alliance’s convener and Chhatra Union President Hasan Tarek. “We will lay siege to Home Ministry on May 20 if our demands are not met,” he said.
