Duck rearing can meet nutrition, bring self-reliance

Experts at a distribution ceremony have called upon the extremely poor rural women for expanded rearing of ducks to meet nutrition demand of their families and achieve self-reliance through alleviating poverty.
They were addressing the duck distribution ceremony arranged by World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) under its Fulbari Area Development Programme (ADP) at its Dadul Sub-centre in Kazihal union of Fulbari upazila in Dinajpur this afternoon.
A total of 1,728 ducks were distributed among the trained women of 108 extremely poor families of Kazihal union, with 16 ducks for each family, to help them enhancing income generations for achieving self-reliance and meet their own nutritional demand.
Fulbari Upazila Livestock Officer Dr M M Mossarraf Hossain attended the ceremony and distributed ducks among the beneficiary 108 distressed women as the chief guest with President of ‘Suryamukhi Mohila Unnayan Forum’ Lilufa Yasmin in the chair.
Acting Manager of Fulbari ADP of WVB Badal Sangma, its Agriculture Officer Arbindu Roy and Programme Officer Lal Thoyai Bom attended and addressed the ceremony as the special guests.
In their speeches, the speakers said the distressed rural women might turn the venture of duck rearing into main source of meeting nutritional demand of their family members, including children, side by side enhancing incomes to attain self-reliance.
They suggested the beneficiary rural women of different villages under Kazihal union for successful rearing of ducks, other poultry birds and setting up homesteads gardens to enhance their incomes and meet nutritional demand.
The chief guest called upon the beneficiary women for proper utilisation of the knowledge, they acquired earlier from the training curse organised by WVB on duck rearing, to enhance their incomes on their way to achieve self-reliance.
