Chased by cops, injured Jamaat man crushed under wheels of bus in city

A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed after being hit by a bus following police chase on the Kalshi Road at Pallabi in the city on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Bellal Hossain, 35, ameer of Darus Salam thana unit of Jamaat and son of Giasuddin of Moheshkandi village in Shariatpur.
Witnesses said, Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a sudden procession at Sangbadik Colony intersection in the area at around 8:25am. They threw brick chips on a team of police from the procession.
As, on information, more policemen rushed in, the Jamaat-Shibir men vandalised several vehicles on the road triggering a clash with the law enforcers. Ziauzzaman, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said police fired several rounds of blank shots to disperse the procession. Bellal got hit by a speeding bus while fleeing the area as police chased him, leaving him severely injured. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 10:15am.
