Charge framing against BNP leaders deferred

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka once again deferred framing of charges against BNP leaders Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas and 39 others yesterday in a case filed on the charges of vandalism last year.
Magistrate Hakim Mohammad Tarek set the new date of hearing on September 2.
Assistant Secretary of the Jamaat-e-Islami’s Dhaka unit, Shafikul Islam Masud, has been shown absconder in the case. But defense lawyer Taherul Islam Touhid told newsmen, “He is in the jail in another case.”
Then the judge directed the prosecution to produce the Jamaat leader in the court for indictment hearing on September 2. The court is expected to pass order that day on exemption pleas filed by BNP Standing Committee members Moudud and Abbas.
Paltan Police Station filed the case accusing 44 people of vandalism following the obstruction of traffic in front of the BNP head office on March 6 last year. Sub-Inspector Moshiur Rahman of the police station submitted the charge sheet against 41 BNP people on March 27 last year.
Party’s Standing Committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Joint Secretaries General Amanullah Aman and Barkatullah Bulu, and Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal were, among 28 accused, present in the court on Sunday. Twelve accused of the case are on the run.
