Tazreen Fashions: Chairman gets bail, MD’s plea rejected

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Monday granted bail to Tazreen Fashions Chairman Mahmuda Akhter Mita while the bail petition of the Managing Director (MD) and also Mita’s husband Delwar Hossain was rejected and he was sent to the jail.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Ismail Hossain passed the order after hearing on Tazreen Fashions fire case. Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul confirmed the matter to this correspondent.
Earlier, on Sunday at about 9.30 am, Managing Director Delwar Hossain and Chairman Mahmuda Akhter Mita surrendered to the court with bail pleas.
Earlier, on December 31, 2013 a Dhaka court issued warrants of arrest against six people of Tazreen Fashions including its Chairman and Managing Director in connection with the fire incident in the garment factory in 2012.
The fugitives in the charge sheet of the case include MD Delwar Hossain and Chairman of the company Mahmuda Akhter, and four others.
On Dec 22 last year, police submitted the charge sheet against 13 officials of Tazreen Fashions Ltd including its Managing Director (MD) and Chairman.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigator AKM Mohsinuzzaman Khan submitted the charge sheet with Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.
On November 24 in 2012, at least 112 people were killed and over 200 injured overnight in a devastating fire at Tazreen Fashions in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital.
After five-hour long frantic efforts, a total of 10 fire-fighter units brought the fire under control at midnight.
