Nusrat murder was pre-planned: NHRC: Capital punishment demanded

People in Dhaka on Friday staged a demonstration demanding justice for Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrasa student in Feni who was burned to death on Wednesday for filing of a case against sexual assault.
The protesting people under the banner of “Gaurab-71” also demanded capital punishment to the prime accused Siraj Ud Doula the susppend Principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa.
The demonstration was staged in front of the National Museum in the capital’s Shahbagh intersection around 11am.
Golam Kuddus, President of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote said, “Exemplary punishment has to be executed for the crimes like rape and sexual harassment of women in order to eliminate such heinous offences from the society.”
Professor Dr Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (administration) of Dhaka University, demanded that everyone who was behind the Nusrat murder has to be brought to the book regardless of their political identities and social status.
The protesters later brought out a procession from Shahbagh intersection to Central Shaheed Minar.
Meanwhile, a two-member team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday visited Feni’s Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa to get first-hand report on the tragic killing incident of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Director (Complaints and Inquiry) of the NHRC said that the incident of killimg Alim examinee Nusrat was pre-planned.
 “If the madrasa authorities and local administration took step against Siraj Ud Doula (principal of the madrasa), the girl might not have met such tragic end,” he said.
The NHRC official said he found connection between the April 6 incident and the incident of sexually harassing her last month.
The two-member delegation of the NHRC also visited the victim’s north Charchandia village and talked to her family members, relatives and some local people to know pros and cons of the tragic killing incident.
Rabiul Islam, Deputy Director of the NHRC, was accompanying Faizul Kabir during the visit.
