Speakers at a meeting stressed the need for ensuring environment-friendly sanitation and safe water for all to protect public health.
For this reason, they said, natural supply of safe water must be ensured as there is no alternative to protecting safe water sources in this regard. The meeting was held yesterday at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Khulna marking the National Sanitation Month and the World Hand Wash Day-2018.
Khulna Divisional Administration, Khulna District Administration and Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE) jointly organised the meeting with DPHE superintendent engineer SM Wahedul Islam in the chair. Commissioner of Khulna Division Lokman Hossain Mia addressed the meeting as the chief guest while director of Khulna Health Department Dr Shushanta Kumar Roy, CEO of Khulna City Corporation Palash Kanti Bala, Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain, Deputy Police Commissioner Fazlur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Ziaur Rahman and Divisional Head of UNICEF Md Kafil Uddin, among others, spoke. The speakers said people of all ages, including children, will likely to get relief from different diseases like Diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases, if they wash their hands regularly.
They underscored the need for using sanitary toilet and urged all not to defecate under the open sky.
DPHE executive engineer Md Zahid Parvez delivered the welcome speech while its assistant engineer Joyanta Mallick presented a keynote paper.
