Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal on Thursday urged the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) and the private airlines to be more vigilant to address the flight safety issue.
“We need to work more sincerely to flourish our aviation industry by ensuring the safety of the air journey,” he said at the inaugural ceremony of an international tourism fair in the capital. The minister said the Bangladesh government is sincerely trying to find out the reasons behind the recent US-Bangla plane crash in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu and the investigation report of the tragic incident will be published as soon as possible.
“We have to work unitedly in recovering the losses of our aviation sector due to the plane crash in Kathmandu,” he added.
The minister urged all stakeholders of the tourism sector to make a pragmatic plan in line with the economic uplift so the travel and leisure industry can seize the new opportunity, created by Bangladesh’s eligibility for the developing country status.
He also called for incorporating tourism in every development planning.
The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism newspaper, organized the three-day international fair titled “Dhaka Travel Mart 2018′ at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel. US-Bangla Airlines, one of the private airlines of the country, is the title sponsor while Bangladesh Tourism Board and national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines are supporting the event as partners.
The inaugural ceremony was also addressed, among others, by the Director of Marketing and Sales, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, CEO of US-Bangla Airlines Mohammad Ali Ahsan Imran Asif and Editor of The Bangladesh Monitor Kazi Wahidul Alam.
A minute’s silence was observed at the beginning of the ceremony to show respect to the victims of the plane accident in Kathmandu. Doa was also offered seeking peace of the departed souls and early recovery of the injured passengers.
Forty-eight organisations from different countries and host Bangladesh are showcasing their products and services in five pavilions and 60 stalls at the fair.
National Tourism Organisations, airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, online booking portals, healthcare service providers are participating in the fair among others.
On the sidelines of the fair a seminar on “Riverine Tourism: Bangladesh Perspective” will be held on Saturday.
Visitors will be able to go around the fair from 10 am to 8 pm every day paying an entry fee of Taka 30.
