Staff Reporter: The Ministry of Public Administration (MOPA) on Sunday said Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sultana Pervin will be withdrawn as evidence of picking up and torturing journalist Ariful Islam was found to be true.
“Departmental action will also be taken her (Sultana Pervin) in this regard. Not only the DC, but all those who were involved with the incident, will be brought to book considering their situation,” State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said at a press conference held at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
He also said an investigation into the incident found most of allegations against the DC to be true.
Earlier in the day, Ariful was directly taken to the hospital after being released from jail.
Ariful, Kurigram district correspondent for Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune, was granted bail by Additional District Magistrate Sujauddowla on Sunday morning.
The mobile court in the dead of Friday late night jailed the journalist for a year, after law enforcement members led by magistrates picked him up from his home in Kurigram town.
The mobile court brought an allegation against the journalist that drugs and alcohol were recovered from his possession, which his family termed totally absurd.
