Buyers crowd at Port City malls ahead of Eid

 Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the major religious festivals of the Muslims, is knocking at the door, shopping has gained momentum with great rush in the markets of port city.
The buyers are crowding in the city markets here to buy clothes and other necessary life style items for their families ahead of eid festival.
All city markets including kitchen markets are seen busy selling their commodities as crowds of customers at the shopping centers start in the morning and continue till midnight.
With a sharp rise in the number of buyers, traffic congestion in the city’s different busy areas, including New Market, Chawkbazar, Probortok, Andarkillah, GEC, Lalkhan bazar crossings and Agrabad area, has become acute. Most businessmen at different markets said sales have not yet reached its peak compared to its past year trend although 14 Ramadan has passed. Shoppers complained that the prices of all lifestyle items have increased by 10 to 20 per cent than the last year.
Talking to this correspondent , President of General Metropolitan Shop Owner Association said most of the public and private employees got their salaries and festival bonus so the shopping has gained momentum. Popular clothes are being sold at prices ranging from Taka 4000 to Taka 20,000. Both Indian and local saris are also in great demand, Abdul Mannan, General Secretary of Terribazar Businessmen Association quoted different market sources as saying. Different brands of local saris like Silk, Katan, Tangail and Indian Kanjilal, are in great demand in the local markets.
Bangalore, Silk Katan, Anarkoli and Lehenga are also being sold at prices ranging from Taka 5000 to Taka 50,000.
Besides low income people are crowding in various footpath shops and small shops as prices here are a little bit lower than the big shopping malls.
Meanwhile, a large number of makeshift shops have sprung up on the
pavements of the city on the occasion of Eid. Prices of different varieties of clothes, particularly cotton tissue, silk, and synthetic, have been a sharp rise although the shops are almost full of a variety of garments.
The well-off buyers are crowding in different big shopping centers, while the low- income people are also seen purchasing their desired items from the footpath shops in the city.
Supply of lifestyle items, including foreign brands, in the market has gained momentum.
Varieties of Indian saris and three pieces are also flooded at shopping centers, especially in Mimi Super Market, Terribazar and Reazuddin Bazar, Amin Center, Ocean city, Moti Tower and Chittagong Shopping Complex. Traffic department sources said, port city has been witnessing heavy traffic congestion from mid Ramzan at New market, Reazuddin Bazar, Jubilee Road, Station road , Andarkilla, Chawkbazar , Sholoshahar, Nasirabad, Agradab, Dewan hat, Lalkhan Bazar and Bahaddarhat due to sharp rise in the number of buyers on the occasion of the festival.
Traffic police were also seen struggling to tackle the situations at those points. Besides the anti-crime elite force RAB, police are vigilant on the road of port city to check mugging, snatching, eve teasing and other unlawful activities.
