RAB has arrested bus driver Mohit Mia Khokon over the accident that led to the death of one-year-old toddler Akifa Khatun.
On Aug 28, Rina Khatun had been crossing the road at the Chourohash intersection while carrying her daughter, when she was struck by the Faisal Ganjeraj bus. The impact sent Akifa flying out of her mother’s arms. She later succumbed to her injuries on Aug 30 while undergoing treatment at
Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The incident was caught on the CCTV camera of a nearby jewellery store.
The video showed the bus, headed from Rajshahi to Faridpur, taking on passengers at the side of the road. At one point a woman carrying a child began crossing the road. Just as she was crossing in front of the bus, it began to move and struck her from behind.
Akifa’s father, vegetable trader Harunur Rashid, filed a case against the Faisal Ganjeraj owner, the bus driver and his helper over the death of his daughter.
Bus owner Jainal was arrested Abedin was arrested by RAB last Sunday.
A court has ordered that the case be filed under section 302 of the Penal Code, which is the section regarding murder. The court also dismissed bail for the bus owner and driver.
