The message of the arrival of winter has already spread in the morning. Extensive mustard fields are buzzing with bees, buzzing with honey. Harmed wind of Agrahayan touches the mustard field and conveys the soothing smell to the locals! Just as that smell is attracting everyone, a smile of joy appears on the face of the bumper crop.
Mustard is the main oil crop of the country. In the current season, a large number of lands in Gazipur Sadar Upazila have been planted with improved varieties of mustard.
Due to favorable weather conditions, mustard plants grow fast and are healthy. And this is why the farmers of this area are expecting additional yield this year.
Farmers said that they have become interested in cultivating improved varieties of mustard this year as the prices of improved varieties of mustard were good in the local market last year. On the other hand, if the weather is favorable, every mustard grower will get more profit this year as compared to last year.
Saheb Ali, a farmer in Pineshell area of the upazila informed, he had planted improved varieties of mustard on agricultural land. Paddy cultivation in mustard land is also good and it will help to decrease fertilizer cost for Boro cultivation.
He said, “As the Bari-14 Mustard tree grows taller, its leaves fall to the ground and the use of organic fertilizer increases the fertility of the land. After planting this variety of mustard, the amount of fertilizer required for Boro cultivation in that land is less.
