Bullet-hit baby suffering from heart disease

Staff Reporter :The doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday said that the bullet-hit baby ‘Suraiya’ has been suffering from heart disease. They also said there was a hole in her heart when she was 10 days old. The doctors could hear an unnatural sound during checking of heart-bit. Dr Kaniz Hasina, an Associate Professor of DMCH Paediatric Department, who has been treating Suraiya, said “She has been suffering from heart disease.”Meanwhile, former President and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister H M Ershad went to DMCH to see the condition of the baby. During the visit, Ershad told the Media that the government should apologize for the incident. It may be mentioned that the baby was injured when her eight-month pregnant mother was shot in the abdomen during an attack by a Jubo League faction on another faction on July 23 in Magura that left one killed and another person injured. The bullet passed through the unborn baby’s right shoulder and damaged her right eye. She survived a two-hour Caesarean on her 35-year-old mother, Nazma Khatun at Magura General Hospital.The baby was sent to the DMCH on July 26 without her mother, who was critically ill.
