Brokers dominate Sailkupa Health Complex

Medical representatives and the brokers of some private clinics dominate the upazila health complex in Sailkupa of Jhenaidah district.
 The trend has been hampering the treatment activities in the health complex, alleged some of the patients rushed for treatment and locals.
They alleged the medical representatives who are supposed to visit the physicians of the health complex twice a week from 2 PM to 4.00 PM, rush the complex since early morning. They attend the health complex with their motorbikes in front of the emergency door and other places.
The representatives stay at the emergency room and drug supply dispensary. Sometimes some of the representatives take the chair of the attending senior assistant community medical officer (SACMO) and influences the attending physicians to write some drugs of their respective company.
Sometimes they create pressure on the physicians to write their company items ignoring the norms of the complex.
Mamum Seikh, a patient in the outdoor of the health complex alleged that a representative from a pharmaceutical company had taken the prescription when the attending physicians had issued it to prove whether any of his company products was written in the prescription or not.
Mahiuddin, a patient said, he was advised by the attending physicians to ensure some tests for his abdominal complications. A lady from a private clinic and diagnostic centre and another man from different centre had started pulling him in opposite directions from the back to make the tests from their own ones.
Mahiudddin said, pulling in opposite directions of the clients by the brokers of private clinics was a common feature at Sailkupa upazila health complex.
Locals said, the company men stay in the doctors’ duty room round the clock and gossip there with the attending staff deployed for emergency duty.
Dr. Khondakar Mohammad Babar, upazila health and family planning officer in Sailkupa when contacted admitted the evil practice by the pharmaceutical company men and brokers of the private clinics. UHFPO said, they had been trying to control the situation as the company men and brokers of the private clinics were unabated.
