One iron-bridge collapsed by hit of sand laden cargo on Kalijira River at the crossing of Barisal-Jhakathi district border on Friday noon yet to be repaired.
Due to that direct road communication between Jagua, Magor and Amirabad areas with Nalcity upazila, Jhalakathi district and Barisal divisional headquarter remained disrupted. Local people and witnesses said the dilapidated iron bridge earlier also damaged by hit of water transport and recently repaired temporarily by local government engineering epartment (LGED).
Mostak Alam Chowdhury, Jagua union parishad chairman, said a cargo laden with collected sand from Panchgao area while crossing spot to reach Barisal via Nalcity, hit the bridge on Friday noon.
Two pedestrians also injured and fell into river at that time, but rescued by local people and given treatment at hospital.
Due to that direct road communication in the riverine area remained disrupted and dwellers forced to use water ways wasting more time and money, the UP chairman said.
AL lawmaker for Barisal-5 Jebunnessa, Jhalakathi district police super Suvash Chandra Saha, officials of LGED visited the spot.
