Brahmaputra erosion continues unabated in Kurigram

The river side people of the river Brahmaputra are being frustrated as the river erosion is going on unabated at Raumari upazila in Kurigram district.
The river erosion has been continuing on in about seven kilometer long area at Khedaimari, Bandaber and Jadurchar area under the upazila.
 Finding no government initiative , at last the villagers have started piling activities by bamboos at their own initiatives to protect the erosion.
 Several hundreds of people gathered near the Brahmaputra River at 11 am on Friday (April 25) and formed a human chain and demonstration demanding necessary steps to protect river erosion before the coming rainy season.
The law maker of Kurigram constituency-4 Md. Ruhul Amin, Principal Abdul Aziz, Head teacher Abdul Aziz former upazila chairman Abdul Khaleque, UP Chairman Abdul Kader spoke there among others.
The villagers said, two educational institutes and several hundreds of houses were eroded in the last flood and people became homeless and landless.
Executive Engineer of Kurigram Water Development Abu Taher told that several projects have been taken for river erosion and save the people from erosion and some proposals were sent to higher authority for implementation. The projects will be implemented before rainy season after getting the approval, he added.
The law maker of Kurigram constituency-4 Md. Ruhul Amin said he informed the matter to ministry concerned including the Prime Minister.
