Boro seedlings transplantation begins in Gaibandha, Panchagarh

Transplantation of Boro seedlings has begun in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current Boro season amid much enthusiasm to the farmers.
Office sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a plan to bring 1,25,325 hectares of land under the Boro cultivation this year with the production target of 5,04,425 tonnes of rice.
Of the total, some 19,630 hectares would be brought under the cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 14,925 in Sadullapur Upazila, 12,775 in Palashbari Upazila, 30,550 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 24,100 in Sundarganj Upazila, 15,050 in Shaghata Upazila and 8,295 in Fhulchhari Upazila.
Now, the farmers of the district have become so much busy as they were preparing their land for transplanting boro seedlings with hopes of getting desired output this year like the previous one, said Mamtaz Uddin Bepari, a farmer of Samash area under Sundarganj upazila.
To bring the land under cultivation programme, the farmers prepared seed beds on 5,822 hectares of low land where the seedlings have grown well due to favorable climatic condition, said Golam Mostafa, crops production specialist of DAE.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success, necessary measures had been taken to supply fertilizers, insecticides, electricity and other agri inputs to the farmers at fair prices side by side ensuring with irrigation facility, he also said.
 BSS from Panchagarh adds: Transplantation of Boro seedlings has begun in all the five upazilas of the district during the current Boro season amid much enthusiasm of the farmers. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 34,000 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in the district with the production target of 2,79,000 tonnes of rice.
Of the total, 30,000 hectares of land would be brought under High Yielding Variety (HYV) and 4,000 hectares of land under local variety of boro paddy.
Deputy Director of DAE Md, Najrul Islam said there is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district. In the meantime, farmers of the district have already cultivated 10 percent of the targeted land and cultivation will continue up to the second week of February, he added.
