Agriculture Affairs Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque of Wednesday said that the present government is working for the development of the country’s agriculture sector to reduce dependency of garment sector.
“Country’s economy will not be dependent of garment sector. The agriculture will play a vital role in the country’s economy too in future,” the agriculture minister said while speaking at a workshop arranged by Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council at Farmgate in the city.
Among others, Agriculture Secretary Nasiruzzaman, Additional Finance Secretary Sultana Afroz, FAO Bangladesh Representative Robert D Simpson, and BERC Executive Chairman Kabir Ikramul Haque spoke on the occasion.
The workshop was chaired by Department of Agriculture Extension’s Director General Md Abdul Muyeed.
Abdur Razzaque also said, “Bangladesh has already promoted to export foods from the country of food deficit one. So, we are working for modernization of the agriculture sector to achieve the goals of SDG.”
Regarding ongoing price hike of onion, he said the government is trying its best to import onion to tackle the shortage of the commodity in the local market.
“The crisis of onions in local market is a temporary hazard … we’re trying to bring onions from foreign countries,” he said.
