The Bangladesh Olympic (U-23) football team will leave for Nepal today to participate in the 13th South Asian Games.
The football events of the competition will be held in Kathmandu from December 1-10.
“We will fly to Nepal on November 27. The players will meet on the same day and the preparation will begin after we get there. The coach [Jamie Day, who is in England] will join them in Nepal,” national team Manager Satyajit Das Rupu said Monday.
The SA Games football camp had been scheduled to start on November 21, but had to be cancelled as the Bashundhara Kings refused to release eight players which they can do according to FIFA rules.
The Bashundhara Kings changed their minds and decided to release players early after it was revealed that Bangladesh would lock horns with hosts Nepal on the opening day. Bangladesh will face Bhutan in their second and last Group A match on December 3.
