Dr Mahmud Shah Qureshi, hailing from Rangunia, Chittagong is a renowned research scholar. He has also international reputation particularly for his command over the French language and literature and scholastic contribution to research. UNESCO has published his translation of Baul songs. His research book ‘Etude sur L’evolution intellectuelle chez les Musulmans du Bengale 1857-1947’ has been published from Paris. His mentionable books published from Dhaka are ‘Culture and Development, Crescent and Lotus : A study on the Intellectual History of the Muslims of Bengal (upto 1947).’
He was an active participant and international organiser of the Greal Liberation War 1971. The Liberation War was going on in different fronts of Bangladesh. The goal of the nation was freedom. Diplomatic initiative to face the propaganda of the rulers of Pakistan was also being taken in many countries. The Mujibnagar government sent Molla Jalal Uddin MP and Mahmud Shah Qureshi, a two member delegation for Middle East. They started their journey from Delhi with the mission to draw support of the world of conscience against genocide and betrayal to the verdict of the people. It was a difficult task to have the support of some Middle East countries who were wrongly biased by the propaganda of the dictators. This book, mainly focusses on internationally organising for support to the War of Liberation.
A quotation from National Professor, Poet Syed Ali Ahsan on the Liberation struggle, has been printed in the beginning of the book: “War of liberation is a great event in our lives. It is difficult to make one perceive it by explaining the depth, broadness and all comprehensive pervadedness. A whole nation became singleminded for a change and this change emerged after a dangerous fight. For literature, it is a very valuable spirit.”
The contents include Preparatory phase, The War started in March ‘71, India /Mujibnagnar chapter, The Mission of Liberation War in the Middle East, India/Mujibnagar : The last chapter, My country : Free, Conclusion : Where is the end of the path ? And the last is Bibliography.
The writer has arranged the events and history on the basis of his diary with date and day, and when there is the absence of diary, he has depended on and recollected from memory.
The book has been dedicated to ‘The writer’s wife Syeda Qamar Jabin and three children Nabil Shah (Pushon) Nusrat Qamar (Prosonna) and Shazel Shah (Pappu) and their descendants for patriotism and self-realisation.
We expect wide circulation of the book. n
