Dhaka City Awami League general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) yesterday said BNP has turned out to be a box of Satans (devils) for heightening the people’s sufferings.
Referring to BNP’s destructive activities in the name of siege-hartal programmes, the Awami League leader said, “BNP is not at all a political party.
We shall resist their evil activities forever by constituting anti-terrorism and militancy committee in every ward in accordance with the announcement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
Maya said this while speaking at an anti-hartal rally in front of Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city. Sammilito Awami Samarthak Jote organised the rally prior to bringing out a large procession protesting the hartal programme of BNP-Jamaat combine.
Chairman of the Jote Abdul Huq Sabuj presided over the rally, also addressed, among others, by Dhaka City Awami League (AL) acting president MA Aziz, vice-president Mukul Chowdhury, joint secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam and organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad.

Maya said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has given a call for yesterday’s (Thursday) hartal in her bid to escape from appearing before the court in a graft case but it would not bring her any benefit as she has to face the trial and punishment as well.
Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “BNP chairperson should take recourse to the democratic political process shunning the path of terrorism.
Otherwise, the fire of terrorism that she has ignited will burn her.”Referring to the Tuesday’s armed attack on BNP chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman, the minister said, “Thorough investigation is going on to unearth whether attack on him (Reaz Rahman) was carried out to make him a scapegoat or reap any diplomatic benefit out of it.
Whoever might be culprit behind the incident could not escape from the long hand of the law.
The culprits would surely be tried.” Later, a big anti-hartal procession was brought out in the city. The marchers paraded different city streets and were terminated at the starting point.
