The BNP plans to reform its front bodies in order to strengthen the anti-government movement for realization of the caretaker government system to hold a fresh and fair national election.For this, preparations and hectic discussions are going on to find suitable leadership for the new committees of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, sources said.As part of the move, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia held a meeting with the leaders of the JCD at her Gulshan office on Wednesday to have their views on the issue of new leadership of the party’s student body. In the nearly four hours long closed door meeting, she heard most JCD leaders. She will sit again on Sunday to get the views and opinions of the rest of the leaders. The announcement of the new committee might come after the Sunday’s meeting. BNP Student Affairs Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Assistant Student Affairs Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku are playing vital role on formation of the new committee. But a section of the JCD leaders and the workers alleged that they (Annie and Tuku) are playing controversial role to influence the probable committees. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie attended the Wednesday’s meeting. When asked, he denied the allegation against him. He, however, said that the new committee of the Chhatra Dal might be announced soon. He also said that Khaleda Zia is handling the issue of JCD leadership to bring more dynamism in view of the planned movement for a fresh poll under a non-party government system. Young leaders and workers of the student body want a change in the existing committee, as most of leaders are over 40 years.According to sources, age will be a factor in forming the new JCD committee. The age limit for central president and general secretary will not be more than 35 and 32 respectively, and for other posts it should not be more than over 28 and 30 years. This has been directed and suggested by Khaleda Zia. The sources further said that Khaleda Zia also took consulted with several senior teachers of Dhaka University unit, and different professional leaders over formation of the new JCD committee. On September 3 in 2012, the BNP chief announced a five-member committee for the JCD. Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel was nominated the president and Habibur Rashid Habib general secretary.Meanwhile, after completion of the process, Khaleda Zia will hold meeting with the leaders of Juba Dal to take their opinions about the future leadership of the party’s youth body. She has already advised the senior leaders of her party to bring new leaderships in Juba Dal and other bodies to wage a tougher anti-government movement, sources said.
