Joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said that BNP leaders have been suffering from delirium due to frustration for not taking part in the election to the 10th Jaitya Sangsad (Parliament). “With the passage of time they (BNP) now realise that they have committed a mistake by not participating in the January 5 national polls and that led to their gradual isolation from people,” he said posing a question as to whether the international organisations like UNESCO, UNICEF and UN have decorated the present government with accolades for its bad work. Hanif said this on Wednesday while exchanging views with local leaders and workers of his party at his PTI Road residence in Kushtia.
The Awami League joint general secretary said, “The days of misleading the people with outlandish words have ended. Suspicion grew among the members of the public about the mental health of those BNP leaders who made such remarks.”
He said the government under the bold and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ensured progress in all the sectors over the past five years in power.
“In the agriculture sector, we have achieved self sufficiency in food production offsetting 36 lakh metric tonnes of food deficit while the country’s total power generation has reached 11,000 megawatts compared to mere 3200 MW.
The per capita income was only 600 dollars during the rule of the BNP-led government, which has risen to 1200 dollars now and we could retain the GDP growth at 6.2 percent facing various awkward situations,” Hanif added.
Kushtia District Awami League general secretary Azgar Ali and other leaders were present at the view exchange meeting.
