Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has demanded the government to immediately shift its jailed party Chairperson Khaleda Zia to United Hospital in the city for better treatment.
“BNP chairperson’s condition has worsened. The pain in her arms, legs and waist has increased. She needs better medical care on an emergency basis,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this at a news briefing at the party central office on Monday.
“Sunday, we said that our party Chief Khaleda Zia was seriously sick,” he said.
BNP Chief Khaleda Zia has been kept at the old prison
house at Nazimuddin Road since her sentencing in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8.
Asked how he had learned of her health condition, Rizvi said that she had been visited by some members of her family. Her lawyers had also visited her a few days ago.
“I am expressing grave concern regarding the critical condition of health of BNP Chairperson and ‘Mother of Democracy’ Khaleda Zia on behalf of millions of people and the party. I call for her immediate transfer to United Hospital where she will be monitored by her personal doctors.”
She fell ill on 1st April and a medical board of Dhaka Medical College Hospital doctors was formed for her medical tests. The BNP demanded that she be allowed to see her personal doctors. On April 7 Khaleda Zia was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital for X-ray and blood tests.
