Separate ocean ministry underscored for vision 41: Minister

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Mohammad Shahab Uddin said, different ministries have formed separate cells in the name of Blue Economy to promote ocean economy. But it is not getting good results for the lack of coordination. Therefore, it is urgent to form a separate ocean ministry to be developed country within 2041.
He made the said comment as the chief guest at a workshop on “Prospects and challenges of Forest Sector in developing blue economy” in the city on Thursday. Forest Department arranged the programme where Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar and Additional Secretary Doctor Billal Hossain spoke at the programme. Chief Conservator of forest Shafiul Alam Chowdhury was in the chair. Doctor Kawser Ahmed, Professor of Oceanography, Dhaka University presented the key note paper.
Mohammad Shahab Uddin said, we have to explore sea recourses for vision 41. Moreover, forest department will assist for the cultivation of sea grass and sea weed to improve the coastal people life.
Habibun Nahar said, tourists have to pay attention to the sea for saving the Sundarbans. Tourists should be banned in Sundarbans area, because it is on the edge of destruction in the name of tourism.
Kawser Ahmed said, “Although we have sovereignty in the sea, the government’s initiative is not yet sufficient to use ocean resources.”
