Without deployment of Army the election can not be free, fare and credible because police has become partisan and election commission turned into subservient of ruling party.
BNP Mayoral candidate Nazrul Islam Manju alleged that police continued mass arrest in the city.
At least 21 BNP activists were arrested on Friday night. BNP leaders and supporters are being picked up by DB police from their house in the night and uniformed police arresting from their business organizations and streets in day time. Election campaign is hampered. Khulna people are experiencing Government’s terrorism now, he added.
In an oblique question to Awami League Mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Manju said “how you will show face to the people if you are elected under this situation”.
Manju was speaking in a press briefing at his residence yesterday morning.
He however asked the voter to go the voting centre and cast their vote in any situation to protest state terrorism.
BNP’s Central publicity secretary Shamimur Rahaman Shamim, Jamat leader Adv. Shah Alam, BNP leader Adv. Bazlur Rahman, Fakrul Islam and other leader of 20 party alliances were present on that occasion.
Preparations underway for peaceful KCC polls
BSS from Khulna adds: All sorts of preparations are being taken to hold Khulna City Corporation (KCC) elections in a free, fair, transparent and credible way.
Returning Officer of KCC election Md Younus Ali said today “we are taking all preparations to arrange a fair and peaceful election in KCC.”
Some 289 presiding officers, 1,561 assistant presiding officers, 3,122 polling officers will be deployed to hold the polls in peaceful manner in 1561 booths under 289 polling centres, he said.
Ten judicial magistrates and 60 executive magistrates will be on duty in the city from May 14 to maintain law and order situation during the election, added.
