Claiming BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as ‘severely ill,’ the party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has demanded unconditional release of her without any delay.
“Deshnetri Khaleda Zia is severely ill. She needs advance treatment. The doctors who are treating her have recommended for advance treatment,” he said while addressing a press conference at BNP’s central office in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on Saturday.
On September 15, Khaleda’s conditional release from jail in two corruption cases was extended by another six months following a government order. As per the conditions, she will not be allowed to go abroad for treatment as she will have to stay home and receive treatment there.
Rizvi said, “We want immediate release of Begum Zia from house arrest. We demand unconditional release of her. Freedom of democracy is not possible without the release of our leader.”
He further alleged that the government has put conditional barriers so that she (Khaleda) could not take treatment of her own choice. All obstacles should be removed to help facilitate her desired treatment at home and abroad, added Rizvi.
