UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader Rafiqul Islam Miah on Sunday said their ongoing action programme will continue until the government takes an initiative for talks to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her office where she has been ‘confined’ for the nine consecutive days, Rafiqul disclosed his party chief’s stance on the current action programme.
“She (Khaleda) told us the ongoing programme will continue until the government comes up with a proposal for holding dialogue on our demand for arranging a fresh inclusive election,” he said.
The BNP leader further said, “We hope good sense will prevail upon the government and it will respond to Khaleda Zia’s proposal to resolve the ongoing crisis through talks.”
Rafiqul together with BNP standing committee members Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman and Jamiruddin Sircar and BNP chief’s adviser AJ Mohammad Ali entered Khaleda’s office around 6:35pm and had an hour-long meeting with her.
Criticising the government for what he said keeping Khaleda Zia confined to her office, the BNP chief’s all rights have been snatched by besieging her. “She’s not allowed to go anywhere. It’s completely violation of human rights.”
About the police permission for holding ruling party’s a rally in the city on Monday, the senior lawyer said, “They’re allowed to hold rally as they’re in power. We’re not permitted to do so. What kind of democracy it is. Now the country is under the rule of a person.”
Rafiqul reaffirmed that Khaleda had conversation with BJP chief Amith Shah. “We asked madam about the matter. She told us she had conversation with him.”
For the first time senior party leaders came to meet the BNP chief since she has been confined on January 3.
