RU Correspondent :
Students of Rajshahi University (RU) who are living in the ‘mass room’ of the dormitory are facing miserable conditions because of the menace of mosquitoes, unhygienic food, and unhealthy living conditions that force them to spend their nights on their dormitory balconies and in the canteen.
Sources said, the accommodation crisis is being intensified day by day as several powerful students have refused to vacate their rooms in spite of having completed their courses
Nurunnehar, a second year student of Begum Rokeya Hall said, ” In the mass room, the environment for study is extremely disrupted because of noise. Many of us becoming sick for staying in the mass room for a long time.
Around 1,700 female students live in 15 mass rooms of five female-student halls at the university. The conditions in these rooms are unhygienic and hinder studies considerably, the students alleged.
Besides, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of RU unit has created a new block, named the ‘BCL Block’, in every dormitory by controlling 80-100 seats.
RU Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha said, It is very regret that students have to reside in the mass room even after paying monthly fees regularly. If provost council concern us about the illegal controlling seat in the dormitory then we will take necessary steps regarding the matter..
