A blind beggar’s joys knew no bounds after getting a new dwelling house of his own as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. His name is Mohammad Suman Mia (40). He is married and no children. He used to beg from door to door at his village area for survival in Upadhi Uttar union under Matlab Dakhshin Upazila. He used to reside in the house of others as his poor parents sold out all the lands due to extreme poverty. Being fed up with sorrows and sufferings and out of helplessness, a few months ago, accompanied by his wife Soniya Begum, Suman Mia approached the UNO Ms Fahmida Huque at her office and most humbly requested her to arrange a house for him. The UNO said that there is no Khas land of Govt at this Upadhi UP. She then suggested Suman to go to the neighbouring Khidirpur village Union Nayergaon Dakhshin Union where there is Govt khas land. Suman agreed. He pledged to the UNO that he wouldn’t beg any more. There, the UNO allotted a land and a new house for Suman Mia.
A few days ago, the PM Sk Hasina inaugurated these houses and Suman started living there in the new house. Getting the new house, Suman and his wife’s joys knew no bounds.
Talking to this correspondent last week, Suman and his wife said, they are now so happy as they have got a new address with a dwelling house to reside and sleep in peace. Suman has said, ”whatever we eat, no matter. But we can live and sleep in peace under a new house of our own. We have amenities like kitchen, electricity, water, wash room and pure drinking water. It was unimaginable and dreamed of in life. Saying this, Suman raised his hands with joys and gratitude and prayed for the sound and long life of the PM Sheikh Hasina and her good Govt.” He also expressed his gratitude to the UNO Fahmida Huque.
It was observed, Suman and his wife are growing vegetables, rearing some poultry birds and domestic animals beside their house of survival.
When asked, with regrets, Suman has said, ” I am yet to get any govt allowance as a blind. A govt allowance would be of immense help for buying my drugs and running my family”- Suman added.
Talking to this correspondent, local UP Chairman Al Mamun has said, “we are also happy to see that Suman and his wife are happily living in a new house.”
On Tuesday last, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shetu Kumar Barua along with Project Implementation Officer Robiul Islam, local UP Chairman Al Mamun and Union AL President Chand Mia Talukder visited Suman and his new house and then, they planted a few saplings of fruit bearing trees around his new house.
UNO Fahmida Huque has told this correspondent that as gift of PM Sheikh Hasina, as many as 24 dwelling houses have so far been provided to 24 homeless and helpless families in Matlab Dakshin Upazila.
