Wrath of patient: BIRDEM doctors observe work abstention

Doctors of BIRDEM Hospital observed a work abstention programme and blocked the capital’s Shahbagh intersection for half an hour in the morning on Tuesday, protesting assault on their colleagues by the relatives of a patient who died on Sunday night.
Protesting the attack, the doctors abstained from work at 11:00am and formed a human chain at Shahbagh intersection, causing immense sufferings to the patients. After half an hour, the physicians returned to work voluntarily.
A traffic congestion took place in and around the area following the doctors’ agitation programme.
They also submitted memorandums to the prime minister, the home and the health ministries, demanding a judicial inquiry into the assault and exemplary punishment to the attackers.
In the memorandum, the doctors mentioned that a group of miscreants, numbering 60 to 70, entered the hospital at about 8:00pm on Sunday and swooped on three physicians of the Endocrinology department identified as Anwar Hossain, Kalyan Debnath and Shamima Akhtar.
They also alleged that the attackers damaged the office equipment viz computers and others valuables of the department.
