A murder case has been filed with Barishal Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court over death of a Law College student allegedly after brutal custodial torture by Detective Branch (DB) police.
Victim Rezaul Karim Reza’s father Md Yunus Munsi filed the case against SI Mohiuddin and two others on Tuesday afternoon, said Mohsin Montu, one of their lawyers.
Plaintiff Md Yunus Munsi said Mohiuddin, a DB man of Barishal Metrapolitan Police, picked up his son from a tea stall in front of their house on December 29 last year and took to DB office.
He alleged that police tortured Reza brutally and sent him to hospital for treatment.
Reza died at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Saturday night (January 2).
Metropolitan Magistrate Anisur Rahman ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, SI Mohiuddin Ahamed has been closed and sent to the police line.
Although he was closed on Monday night, the police informed the media on Tuesday.
