Bhutan wants to dev trade with BD

Bhutan expressed keen interest to develop the existing trade with Bangladesh. It also emphasized on Bangladesh investment in Bhutan, and to identify the potential sectors for expansion of bilateral trade. It was discussed at a meeting on Wednesday between a 36 member Bhutan delegation and the business leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at FBCCI Conference Centre, said a press release.
The program titled ERP (engage, reflect and plan of action) was moderated by FBCCI Senior Vice-President Sheikh Fazle Fahim. Sonam Tobden Rabgye, Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh was present. Chewang Rinzin, Deputy Chamberlain to the King of Bhutan led the delegation comprising of 36 Government officials of different Ministries of Bhutan visiting Bangladesh in a weeklong training program. FBCCI Directors and the Heads of Mem ber bodies of FBCCI also attended the meeting.  
The members of the Bhutan Delegation expressed deep interest to expand bilateral trade with Bangladesh. They have came to Bangladesh to find out the challenges and to explore the potentials of enhancing bilateral trade with Bangladesh, they added. As Bangladesh and Bhutan both are in LDC group, the existing trade can be reached to a new height by combined efforts, they mentioned.
Sonam Tobden Rabgye, Ambassador of Bhutan mentioned the development of Bangladesh as very remarkable. The Ambassador also mentioned about simplifying business visa for Bangladesh business entrepreneurs to work with Bhutan.
FBCCI Senior Vice-President Sheikh Fazle Fahim expressed his heartiest gratitude to Bhutan, the First Country to recognize Bangladesh after its Independence. The FBCCI leader mentioned about the non tariff measures (NTM’s), and emphasized on developing the land port facilities and cargo handling system. The private sector of Bangladesh, side by side the Government is working sincerely to improve the trade relation with Bhutan, he added. Sheikh Fahim proposed to host a ‘Tourism Summit’ jointly organized by FBCCI and the Bhutan Embassy to Bangladesh for a better understanding of tourism both of Bangladesh and Bhutan.
FBCCI Directors, at the program invited the Bhutan people to visit the attractive tourism spots of Bangladesh. They also invited Bhutan people for taking healthcare service of Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned that, Bangladesh exported total amount of 3.21 million US $ to Bhutan in 2016-17 and imported the amount of $33.20million. The principal export products of Bangladesh to Bhutan are agricultural products, Woven Garments, Plastics and Plastic articles, and Chemical Products etc. The import items from Bhutan are Vegetable Products, Iron and Steel, textiles & textile article etc.
