Bhandaljuri WASA project sees only 65pc progress in 2.5 yrs

In the last two and a half years after the inauguration, the progress of the Bhandaljuri water project is only 65 percent completed. Work on the project, which started in September 2019, will be completed in June 2023.
Chittagong WASA’s Boalkhali Bhandaljuri water supply project was approved at the ECNEC meeting on 5 January 2016. The project was later approved in the first revised form on January 28, 2020. Korean Exim Bank is financing Tk 824.50 crore for projects worth Tk 1,995.15 crore. Besides, the Bangladesh government is giving Tk 1,150.65 crore and Chittagong WASA is providing Tk 20 crore from own funds.
Chittagong WASA executive engineer and Bhandaljuri water supply project in charge. Golam Kibria Shakil said the work of laying the pipeline is almost 90 percent complete. Besides, equipment and power supply lines are being constructed. Work on the pump station at the Korean EPZ is also almost complete. Infrastructural works have been completed everywhere. All that remains is to install the equipments, a WASA sources added.
