Beef, chicken prices mark rise in Sylhet

Prices of beef and chicken have increased significantly in the Sylhet city’s kitchen Market at the beginning of Ramzan. A day ago, the price of beef increased from Tk 800 to Tk 200/250 per kg. And the kg of chicken has reached Tk 200/220.
It has been seen that the meat and chicken market is crowded with buyers at the beginning of Ramzan. As a result, buyers have increased the price of beef by showing the crisis of beef.
According to traders, a day ago broiler chickens were sold at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg. 200/220 has to be sold due to shortage of supply. Cock chicken is being sold at Tk 220 per piece instead of Tk150 and red chicken at Tk 520 instead of Tk 480. The Sylhet City Corporation fixed the price of beef at Tk 800 per kg and mutton at Tk 750. However, beef with bones is being sold at Tk750 per kg, boneless at Tk 650 and castrated meat at Tk 900 per kg.
Rukan Ahmed, a resident of Madhushahid area in Sylhet, said he was embarrassed to go to buy beef for sahri at the beginning of Ramadan. Meat of Tk 800/720 has reached .Unable to buy beef, I bought chicken at a higher price.
According to the investigation, the Silmara cows were supposed to be sold after a health check-up by the City Corporation for slaughter, but the cows are being slaughtered without seals.
Shaheen Ahmed of Mir Maidan area said that he had to buy chicken at Tk 220 instead of Tk 150 per kg. With Ramadan in front of us, it is as if a price storm has arisen.
Manik Mia of Maryam Pulti Ghar in Rikabibazar said that he had to go to the yard and bring the chicken at a higher price. Even if I set the price from Sisik, I will not be able to sell it with loss.
Sylhet City Corporation Chief Health Officer Jahidul Islam said, “We have fixed the price of beef at Tk 800 and mutton at Tk 800. However, the price could not be fixed in the chicken market. Although prices have been set, traders have syndicated to raise prices. However, 3 supervision teams will be sent down from Sunday to see if this rule is being followed. ‘
He said that there is a veterinary surgeon before slaughtering the cows after checking their health. They came by sealing the cows. But he also admits that animals are being slaughtered and sold without a health check.
One dead, over 100 injured as villages clash
One person died and over a 100 were injured in a clash that broke out between locals of two villages in Sylhet’s Jointiapur Upazila.
Sylhet Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfar Rahman told The deceased has been identified as Saleh Ahmed, 24, a madrasa teacher,.
The six-hour clash over a land dispute was announced on a megaphone beforehand, authorities said.
According to locals, the former chairman of Fatehpur union, Abdur Rashid, a resident of Lamashyampur village recently bought land at Haripur Bazar.
He bought the land from the heirs of late Azizur Rahman who was a resident of Hadapara village.
On Saturday, when Rashid went to visit the land, locals at Hadapara allegedly harassed him leading to tensions between the people of the two villages.
On Sunday, at around 1am, locals of Hadapara and Lamashyampur engaged in a clash after making a public announcement.
Both parties used weapons during the clash, leading to over 100 being injured and the death of a madrasa student.
Law enforcers later reached the scene to bring the situation under control.
