Bean cultivators are becoming financially solvent as they have been achieving bumper production and good price in this current season under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district.
This vegetable cultivation has become an effective means of bringing fortune for many farmers due to the favourable weather condition On the other hand, agri- department has provided well seed to eager farmers of the vegetable from the very beginning of the month of July cross the area to make the programme a grand success.
Department of Agriculture Extension office source said, the farmers have brought a huge amount of land under early variety beans cultivation both in cropland and homestead in the current season aiming bumper production and good price. Three varieties-Rupban, Ghritakanchon and indigenous one have taken much popularity amid the farmers as those are high yielding and DAE officials impart training to the farmers on beans farming and supply seed free of cost to encourage more other farmers towards the beans farming, source added.
While visiting the correspondent found that a good numbers of enthusiastic farmers are now working in bean cultivation commercially in the recent times considering its economic prospect and as it proved highly profitable changing the lives of many people in the different villages. The farmers are seen passing busy time in their beans-field with much eager as they are getting lucrative price of their produces. They are also becoming habituated in cultivating beans in the land demarcation lands of paddy cultivation fields as they are earning extra benefits from the same land.
A farmer Saiful Islam at Gunaher village under Dupchanchia upazila said, he has cultivated on 0.10 acres of land under bean cultivation this years spending tk. 1200 and he has already sold the produced crop over TK. 24000. Rest of the bean may be sold over 4000 if the weather condition remains favourable, he added.
A farmer Enamul Haque at Banduria village of the upazila said, “We are getting bumper production of the vegetable item as well as good price selling them to the wholesalers who are visiting in the local market from Shirajgonj, Naograon , Gaibandha and Dhaka district for purchasing the necessary commodities in high price.”
