The Walton First Beach Football Tournament 2014, organised by Cox’s Bazar District Sports Association, begins today (Saturday) at the Laboni Beach of the tourist town of Cox’s Bazar.
Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Mohammad Ruhul Amin will inaugurate the five-a-side tournament, sponsored by RB Group (Walton).
In the opening match, Youngmen’s Club will face Malumghat KS at 3 pm.
A total of eight teams, split into two groups, will take part initially on league basis. Later, two top teams from each of the two groups will play in the semifinal on September 22. The final match will be held on Sept 24.
The details of the tournament were disclosed by general secretary of Cox’s Bazar DSA Prof Jashimuddin at a press conference at the NSC Tower in Dhaka on Thursday.
Secretary of the National Sports Council Shibnath Roy, additional director of the meet’s sponsor Walton FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, Brand Ambassador of Walton Zobera Rahman Linu, BFF member Bijon Barua and BOA member Mahmudul Islam Rana were present.
Participating teams:
Group A – Malumghat KS, Youngmen’s Club, Kot Bazar Khelwar Samity and Bashkata Khelwar Samity.
Group B – National Cox’s KS, Abahani KC, Football Club Moheshkhali, and Satadol Club Ramu.
The champions will be awarded Tk 20,000 as cash prize while the runners-up team Tk 15,000.
All the participating teams will get appearance money of Tk 5,000 each.
