Diarrhoea takes serious turn in Chandpur

Diarrhoea situation has taken a serious turn in the district in the last several days.
Over 1,000 patients, mostly children up to five years of age, were admitted to icddr,b Hospital in Matlab over the last 11 days till Thursday.
Talking to UNB, doctors and staff of the hospital said most of the patients were affected with diarrhoea caused by ‘Rota’ virus.
They also added that all the children suffering from the disease were cured within two-three days of the admission.Mohibul Hasan, a doctor at the hospital, said on an average over 100 patients with diarrhoea are being admitted to the hospital every day.
He added that 90 percent of the patients are children up to 5 years of age.
During a visit to the hospital, our UNB correspondent found that the hospital authorities are struggling to provide proper bedding facility to the patients due to the increasing number of patients.
Rehena Akter told UNB on Friday that she had come to the hospital with her 18-month-old baby suffering from severe loose motion for the last two days.
