Bangladesh finished their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with an unhappy note as they lost all the five matches they played. On Thursday, they were beaten by Australia by eight wickets to be massacred in their last Group-1 match at Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh scored a meager total of 73 off 15 overs.
In reply, Australia overhauled the winning target in 6.2 overs making 78 for the loss of two wickets.
Fifth-down Shamim Hossain, opener Mohammad Naim and third-down Mahmudullah Riyad were the only batters of Bangladesh who could reach the double digit figures.
Shamim Hossain made 19 from 18 deliveries featuring one four and one six.
Mohammad Naim scored 17 from 16 balls including three fours.
Riyad knocked 16 from 18 balls with two fours.
Spinner Adam Zampa played the key role in demolishing Bangladesh innings. He captured five wickets in the space of 19 runs. Zampa was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc bagged two wickets each instead of eight and 21 runs respectively.
Besides, Glenn Maxwell took one wicket for six runs.
Later, Australia made a good start with the two openers David Warner and Aaron Finch added together 58 runs before Aaron Finch was bowled out by right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed.
Finch hit a polished 40. His 20-ball innings laced with four sixes and two fours.
After Finch’s dismissal, David Warner failed justice for his name as he (18) was bowled out by pacer Shoriful Islam when the Aussies’ total 67 for the loss of two wickets.
One-down Mitchell Marsh guided his team to reach the winning target. He remained unbeaten with 16 runs.
Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each for nine and 36 runs respectively.
