BDRCS conducts operations at jails to fight COVID-19

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) in support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been working to keep the countrywide jails free from the clutch of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The wing on family communication of the society has been conducting special operations at 59 jails out of the 64 districts in the country to keep the prisoners free from the infection of COVID-19 side by side ensuring that none could enter the jails being infected with the virus, said a press release.
The restoration of family communication department of the society has been conducting such operations in Dhaka since April 5 while operations at other jails across the country started on April 9.
The BDRCS said they have already provided disinfectant spray equipment, hand sanitizers, footbaths, daily essentials and awareness leaflets to the authorities of the jails.
The volunteers of the society have been assisting the jail authorities to successfully run these disinfectant operations at the jails.
Besides, the trained volunteers of the society are also motivating those entering jails to use heath safety equipment as well as the jail personnel alongside maintaining social distancing.
Meanwhile, the society has been continuing its countrywide operations to create mass awareness of COVID-19, motivating people to maintain social and physical distancing, installing basins at various points to facilitate hand washing, spraying disinfectant at hospitals, mosques, hats, bazars, temples, churches, other places of worships and public gatherings.
Besides, the Chattogram district and city units of the society have been providing foods among the poor and destitute families, added the release.
