Call to extend Dhaka-Ctg Expressway to Cox’s Bazar

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin on Wednesday laid special emphasis on stretching the proposed Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway to Cox’s Bazar for smooth connectivity with the tourist town. The Commissioner said the proposed Expressway should be extended up to Cox’s Bazar for better economic development of the country as the existing road communication between Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar is awful.
“Besides the tourist sector, Moheshkhali Deep Sea Port, Matarbari LNG Terminal, Coal-based Power Plant and Special Economic Zones would get immense benefit for the proposed Expressway for which an improved road communication with Cox’s Bazar is a demand of time”, he added.
The commissioner came up with the views while addressing a view-exchange meeting on “Proposed Alignment and Design of Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway” held at Chittagong Circuit House. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Chittagong Mejbah Uddin said the process of land acquisition for Anowara Special Economic Zone, Karnaphuli Tunnel, Bay Termnial, Outer Ring-road and Matarbari LNG Terminal Pipeline, extension Railway Lines up to Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar- Goondoom is going on as the government has taken these projects on priority basis.
Presided over by Additional Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highway Department, Chittagong Zone, Bidhan Chandra Dhar, the meeting was addressed, among others by Chittagong Press Club President Kalim Sarwar, Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway project manager Shishir Kanti Daout, Engineer Mahbub-ul-Alam, Chittagong Chamber Director Mahfuzul Hoque Shah and representatives of Chittagong Port Authority, Bangladesh Railway, concerned departments and agencies of the government.
