BD elected WSIS Forum chairman

For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has been elected as the chairman of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) forum to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from April 8-12.
A nine-member Bangladesh delegation led by the minister left here to attend the summit on Saturday night, according to the officials of the ministry. The theme of this year’s forum is ‘Information and Communication Technologies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’. While talking to journalists at the airport, the minister thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her efforts to build Digital
Bangladesh and also congratulated her ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy saying that Digital Bangladesh has gained the real form by the inspiration and guidance of her. Earlier, for the fifth time in a row, Bangladesh has won the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Prize-2018, most prestigious award in ICT sector of the world.
Access to Information (a2i) Program of Prime Minister’s Office received the award for its innovative Muktopath (www.muktopaath.gov.bd) project.
The WSIS Forum is serve as a key forum for discussing the role of ICTs as a means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets, with due regard to the global mechanism for follow-up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The WSIS Forum is a global United Nations (UN) multi-stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
