MoU signed to promote skilled birth attendances

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed here on Monday between the Directorate General of Family Planning and USAID-supported MaMoni Health Systems Strengthening Project to promote skilled attendances at birth in Habiganj district aiming to cut maternal and newborn death.
Director General of Family Planning Md. Nur Hussain Talukder and Chief of Party of MaMoni Health System Strengthening (HSS) Project Dr. Ishtiaq Mannan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. Director of Office of Population of Health, Nutrition and Education from USAID Melissa Jones, among others, was present at the signing ceremony. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed to support the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to develop a scale-up plan to strengthen Union Health and Family Welfare Centres for promoting skilled attendances at birth.
The Health Population Nutrition Sector Development Programme (HPNSDP) 2011-2016 has attached priority to expand skilled attendance at birth for reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. It has set a target of achieving 50 percent coverage of skilled attendance at birth nationally by 2016.
