BCG seizes 75 lakh meters of current nets worth Tk 26 crores in Chandpur

Bangladesh Coastguard members in collaboration with a Mobile Court in a sudden drive near Wireless Bazar More beside Ghasstola Bridge on the outskirt of Chandpur town seized about 75 lakh metres of contraband current nets from a truck on Tuesday at around noon. The approximate price of the seized nets was Tk 26 crore. The truck loaded with huge quantity of current nets was coming to Horinaghat under Sadar Upazila from Munshiganj.
Acting on a tipoff, the truck was challenged by the Mobile Court comprising an Executive Magistrate Imran Hossain Dalim, Coastguard and fisheries officials and then they saw that it was carrying a huge quantity of current nets. At once two people on board the truck were detained. They are identified as Arif (32) and A Barek (42). They were later fined Tk 10 thousand by the Mobile Court.
According to BCG Chandpur, acting on a tip off, the drive, launched at around noon, intercepted the Horina bound truck from Munshiganj at the above spot and then seized the nets and detained two above mentioned people..
BCG Media officer LftCommander BN AmirulHuque confirmed the news to the media.
In the afternoon, all the seized nets were burnt to ashes at the Coastguard station yard. DC office’s Executive Magistrate Mohammad Imran Hossain Dalim, Coastguard officers and Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Ashiqur Rahman were present at the time of burning the nets.
