Mahdi Hasan, BAU :
The first year female students of Taposi Rabeya Hall of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Tuesday staged demonstration demanding inclusion of their names in the attachment list of newly build female residential dormitory.
The protesters reside in the health care center of the university despite their attachment with Taposi Rabeya Hall due to seat shortage in that dormitory.
The students also put the administration building under lock and key at around 12:00pm after knowing that their names have not been included.
The agitators said that administration kept them in the health care center by making a promise to give them seat in the dormitories within one month.
But when the construction of new dormitory has been finished, we have not seen our names on the attachment list, they added.
The students released the administration building at around 1:00pm when provost of newly constructed female dormitory Prof Dr Farida Yeasmin Bari said that the attachment list will be sent to them within yesterday evening.
About the seat crisis of female students, BAU students affairs adviser said that the students agitated due to misunderstanding. They will be transferred to the new hall by April 8 and 9, he added.
Mentionable, the administration used health care center and Chashi Hostel as female dormitories for the first year students as there is shortage of seat after filling all possible housing spaces in the regular dormitories.
