Last two times champions Bashundhara Kings further consolidated their top slot in the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football beating Saif Sporting Club (SC) by 4-3 goals at Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city on Wednesday.
With the day’s hard fought victory, big budgeted Bashundhara Kings not only earned their 8th consecutive win in the league but also maintained their solo lead comfortably securing 24 points from nine matches, six points ahead of their rivals Dhaka Abahani ,who bagged 18 points.
After a shocking defeat against newcomers Swadhinata KS in league opener, the Kings never looked behind to clinch the league crown for the 3rd time in a row after deprived of the season’s first two major trophies-Independence Cup and Federation Cup football
After the match, Saif SC went down to the 6th slot in the league table with their previous credit of points from nine encounters.
In the day’s crucial match, Brazilian playmaker cum Kings captain Robson Robinson scored first in the very 3rd minute (1-0) while Nigerian striker Mfon Udoh restored the parity for Saif SC in the 19th minute (1-1).
Matin Mia scored two more goals in the 26th and 55th minutes respectively to sound the King’s margin (3-1).
Forward Foysal Ahmed Fahim reduced the Saif margin in the 60th minute (3-2) while defender Riyadul Hosan leveled the margin in the 67th minute (3-3). Iranian defender Khaled Shafiei scored the match winner for the Kings in the 77th minute (4-3). In the day’s another match, six times champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd played to a goalless draw with three times champions Sheikh Jamal DC at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
.With the day’s upset, the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani further went down in the title race with 18 points from nine encounters while Sheikh Jamal DC maintained the 3rd slot as lone unbeaten team in the league to follow Abahani neck and neck with 17 points from nine outings.
