UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday alleged that the government is going to amend the Banking Companies (Amendment) Act in a bid to give pro-Awami League businessmen a scope of establishing ‘dynasty’ in private banks.
“The parliamentary standing committee on finance recommended passing the Banking Companies (Amendment) Act-2017, allowing four members of a family to sit on a bank’s board and increasing the tenure of the board of directors of a bank from six years to nine years,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Rizvi also said, “The government is going to ensure the opportunity for the families of pro-Awami League businessmen to indulge in looting through passing the law. This new move will also create a scope for establishing dynasty in the private banks.”
He alleged that a widespread plundering has been going on in the banking
sector since the current government came to power. “The new act will create further opportunities for looting public money.”
The BNP leader said the country’s economy is now on the brink of collapse due to unbridled plundering and corruption in the financial sector.” The ruling party men have occupied a number of banks one after another. It seems the current government has become a bandit to loot all the wealth of people.”
Rizvi also described the proposed National Broadcast Act-20017 as a black law, saying the main motive behind the act is to regulate the media.
He also alleged that the government is planning to pass the act to suppress its opponents, critics and alternative opinions. “The government will also snatch people’s freedom of expression through it.”
The BNP leader strongly protested and condemned the government’s move to pass the and broadcast act.
