Bangladesh reports 16 more virus deaths, 1,617 infected

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 16 new deaths from the novel coronavirus, while 1,617, the highest single-day infections from the virus also detected in the last 24 hours.
“With the new cases the death toll reached to 386 and the number of infections now stand at 26,738 in the same period,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said it in a regular press briefing in Dhaka.
Dr. Sultana said that the tally of recoveries also climbed to 5,207 after another 214 patients were released from different hospitals in the last 24 hours.
She said total 10,207 samples were tested at 43 authorised laboratories across the country, with United Hospital the latest to join the fold.
The DGHS official said that among the latest fatalities, 13 were men. In terms of their ages, one was over the age of 80, two were between 71 and 80, four between 61 and 70, five between 51 and 60, one between 41 and 50, another between 31 and 40 while the other was a child aged between 1 and 10.
She said that 300 people were sent into isolation with COVID-19 symptoms in the last 24 hours. Currently, 3,816 people are being isolated in the country so far.
