Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP), a partner of the 19-party alliance, on Thursday protested the government’s latest move of hike in power price and urged the government to revise its decision.
The party will hold a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on March 9 against the power price hike.
The leaders of the party in a meeting at Nayapaltan said that people of the country wouldn’t accept the price hike as it is against the interest of the common people. The government should stop corruption and
looting in the power sector instead of increasing its price frequently, they added.
The meeting was held with the party Secretary General M Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan in the chair. The party presidium member Golam Sarwar Khan, Joint Secretary Generals Syed Shahjahan Saju, Swapan Kumar Saha and Morol Amzad Hossain also spoke in the meeting.
Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan said that the power price had been increased six times during the tenure of the Awami League government, which is unbearable to the common people. He said that the government has taken the decision of the price hike in attempt to protect the interest of the power traders instead of the common people.
