Bangladesh lost to South Africa by 333 runs in the first Test on the fifth and final day at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Monday.
South Africa batted first after sent into bat and the hosts declared their first innings making 496 for the loss of three wickets on the second day (Friday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored 320 in the first innings on the third day (Saturday).
Later, South Africa declared their second innings scoring 247 for the loss of six wickets on the fourth day (Sunday) and set a target of 424 runs to win for Bangladesh in the second innings.
In reply, Bangladesh scored 49 for the loss of three wickets before the bails were drawn for the fourth day.
Then Bangladesh were bundled out for 90 in the second innings on the fifth and final day (Monday).
Bangladesh failed to build any notable partnership and the tourists lost their wickets in regular intervals before the lunch.
Mushfiqur Rahim (15) was caught at the first slip by Hashim Amla off Kagiso Rabada when the tourists’ total was 55 for the loss of four wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad (9) was bowled out by Kagiso Rabada when the visitors’ score was 62 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Liton Das (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Rabada when the team’s total was 67 for the loss of six wickets.
Sabbir Rahman (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Keshav Maharaj when the tourists’ score was 67 for the loss of seven wickets.
Tail-ender Taskin Ahmed (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Keshav Maharaj when the team’s total was 71 for the loss of eight wickets.
Number nine batsman Shafiul Islam (2) was run out by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock when the visiting side’s score was 75 for the loss of nine wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman (1) was caught & bowled by Keshav Maharaj when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Mahidy Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten with 15 runs. He hit one four and one six in his 32-ball knock.
Bangladesh could play only 32.4 overs in their second innings.
Keshav Maharaj captured four wickets at the cost 25 runs, while Kagiso Rabada grabbed three wickets instead of 33 runs.
Dean Elgar of South Africa who scored 199 in the first innings was adjudged the Man of the Match.
The second and final Test between Bangladesh and South Africa will be held at Bloemfontein from October 6 to October 10.
